EN: In Leaving Hotel California, we look back with Mark Fallon on his time at Guantánamo Bay. As a former special agent of the Naval Criminal Investigative Service, he tried to stop the use of torture from within the system. The moral dilemmas and thoughts from that period continue to occupy him to this day.

With the help of former detainee Mohamedou Ould Slahi and CIA whistleblower John Kiriakou, we tell this story.

Almost 25 years later, people are still imprisoned, waiting for their trial. It remains important to continue speaking out and to draw lessons from history, in order to help prevent injustices from recurring.

NL: In Leaving Hotel California blikken we met Mark Fallon terug op zijn tijd in Guantánamo Bay. Als voormalig special agent van de Naval Criminal Investigative Service probeerde hij van binnenuit de martelpraktijken te stoppen. De morele dilemma’s en gedachtes vanuit die periode houden Mark tot de dag van vandaag nog bezig.

Met behulp van oud-gevangenen Mohamedou Ould Slahi en CIA whistleblower John Kiriakou vertellen wij dit verhaal.

Bijna 25 jaar later zitten er nog steeds mensen gevangen in afwachting van hun proces. Het blijft belangrijk om te blijven praten en lessen te trekken uit de geschiedenis, om te helpen voorkomen dat onrecht zich opnieuw voordoet.
