Update: A New Chapter for LearnToShare
Since 2016, the LearnToShare Center, founded by Bunyong Roeurn, has provided free education to children in a rural community just outside Siem Reap. With the support of friends, donors, and visiting volunteers, we built a community school where children could learn English, computer skills, and other foundational subjects at no cost. Many of our brightest students went on to attend the Florida International School, and several have since graduated into meaningful jobs in the tourism and service industries.
Today, things are changing for the better. After many years, the Cambodian government has finally recognized the need for formal education in this rural area and has opened a new public primary school. This is a huge win for the community and the children are now happily attending school from Monday through Saturday.
Because the public school now serves the community’s basic education needs, we have decided to close our community school facility. But we are not closing our mission. Instead, we are evolving it.
Education Moving Forward: Sponsoring Future Leaders
Although our community school is closed, our commitment to supporting bright, hardworking students continues. We aim to sponsor five students to continue their education at the Florida International School, an investment that has already proven life-changing for past generations. Students who attended Florida School through our sponsorships have gone on to become receptionists, hospitality staff, teachers, and skilled workers, breaking the cycle of poverty and building secure futures for themselves and their families.
Target Funding: $10,000
$400 per student per year
5 students
5 years of support
These scholarships open doors that otherwise remain closed—especially for children from poor rural families. With your help, we can continue providing this opportunity.
Evolving Into A Life Skills Training Center
With formal education now available through the government, our facility can evolve into something the community still urgently needs: a Life Skills Training Center.
This new center will offer free vocational training in practical, marketable skills that lead directly to employment. These include:
Electrical and plumbing basics
Motorbike and small engine repair
Refrigeration and air-conditioning
Construction and carpentry fundamentals
Gardening, landscaping, and groundskeeping
Hospitality-related skills needed in Siem Reap’s tourism industry
We will also open our doors to:
Students who failed high school exams
Young adults who cannot afford university
Community members seeking skills to lift themselves out of poverty
Target Funding: $5,000
To make this possible, we need to equip the center with essential tools and materials: hand tools, small engines, trimmers, mowers, repair equipment, and supplies for hands-on training.
Community Service Program
As part of the training, students will also volunteer to improve their own community: cleaning neglected gardens, roadsides, sewers, public spaces, schools, health centers, and temples. All work will be provided free of charge as a way of giving back while gaining real experience.
With Your Help, We Can Continue Changing Lives
The Learn2Share Center has always been about opportunity, first through education, and now through skills that create sustainable futures. This next chapter will allow us to support both promising students and young adults seeking a path out of poverty.
Thank you for standing with us. Your generosity continues to shape the lives of children and families in rural Cambodia.
