Laurie is a 5th grade teacher in Brooklyn, NY.  Being a public school teacher in New York City means teaching an incredibly diverse student body, with children from all over the world, representing a broad socio-economic spectrum.  Some of these young learners spend their very first days in America in Laurie's classroom.  Laurie's warmth, incredible energy, dedication and compassion helps to shape these young learners.  With Laurie's guidance her kids learn to become strong critical thinkers who understand the vital importance of inclusion, engagement and community.

Children lucky enough to land in Laurie's class find themselves on immersive trips to Gettysburg, the Lower East Side Tenement Museum, Ellis Island or the New York State Supreme Court.  She also maintains an expansive library for her kids in the classroom.  These trips and reading opportunities are just two examples of Laurie's comprehensive approach to educating our kids.

We are hoping to raise $500 by May 18, 2017.  If the goal is reached, Laurie's class will be entered into a contest to receive an additional $1,000 as part of GoFundMe's #WeLoveTeachers campaign.  Money raised through this fund drive will be spent facilitating these vital field trips and expanding the in-class library.  Laurie is hoping to update the library to better reflect Brooklyn's diverse communities.  Any help will be greatly appreciated by both Laurie and her students and will go directly toward funding these resources.

Thank you so much!
