Treatment For Lauren Moon's Rare Bone Disease

We all know her as the one who always shows up so intensely for those around her. It’s time we show Lauren just how strong her community can be when she needs it most…

 

This past August, Lauren went through an agonizing dance with our Western medical system. After going in to be seen for extreme rib pain and discomfort that disrupted her entire life, the doctors thought she may be at risk for a rare type of bone cancer after discovering 4 tumors in her ribs.

 

While thankfully we are so grateful to share Lauren does NOT have cancer, she was instead diagnosed with an extremely rare bone disease called Fibrous Dysplasia. One of the tumors has grown large enough that with any upper body or core activation, she fractures her rib causing continuous pain.

Alongside this disease, Lauren has also spent the past year deeply engulfed in starting up a new company that supports non-profits in their charitable endeavors. So much of her life and what she loves (yoga, acro, teaching children etc.) has been impacted as she learns to navigate the deep rib pain of and continuous bone breaks and trying to stay on top of life personally and professionally.

Western medicine options include treatments to help with the pain but act as a Bandaid with potentially horrible side effects. The options include regular Lidocaine Infusions, alcohol injections into the bone, or removing her rib where the painful tumor lives.

 

While it will be a lifelong navigation alongside this disease that western medicine says is incurable, she has found hope.

 

A dear friend of Lauren’s recommended a 10th generation acupuncturist who's been studying since he was 9 years old. He is a master acupuncturist and herbalist named Lixin Zhang. Her friend worked for him and watched him perform miracles. She is now undergoing intensive treatment with him 2x a week with daily herbal supplements, a strict diet, and lifestyle changes.

 

In just 3 weeks Lauren is already seeing MASSIVE improvements. Lixin has held her hand, looked her in the eyes, and said that she is going to be his next miracle.

 

Well it turns out miracles are expensive and this is going to take one year of treatments. While we’re all so grateful to know there are options to help Lauren reconnect to her body and the life of fitness and movement she loves, one year of treatment is an out of pocket cost of $27,000.
