¿Recuerdas la Feria Mundial de Jamaica Plain? Comenzó como una venta de acera gigante en el centro de Jamaica Plain antes de trasladarse a Hyde-Jackson Square como un festival multicultural con comida, vendedores, música en vivo y actividades intergeneracionales. Desafortunadamente, después de 2008, el festival se detuvo. ¡Presentamos la Feria Mundial del Barrio Latino!
La Feria Mundial del Barrio Latino 2019 (LQWF, por sus siglas en inglés) se llevará a cabo en el corazón del Barrio Latino de Boston el domingo 15 de septiembre de 2019 y servirá como el inicio del Barrio Latino para el mes del Patrimonio Nacional Latinoamericano en Boston. Aprovechando los 20 años de historia de la Feria Mundial de JP, el LQWF será un verdadero festival comunitario que celebra las tradiciones culturales del vecindario.
El LQWF está organizado por activistas locales, artistas, organizaciones, jóvenes, residentes y comerciantes que se comprometen a crear un evento que represente el espíritu de eventos pasados. En el proceso de planificación se incluirá también la aportación de la comunidad actual.
La Feria Mundial del Barrio Latino será un evento para la comunidad, hecha por la comunidad. Para planificar este evento habrá una serie de reuniones comunitarias públicas, sesiones de planificación y encuestas previas al evento, donde todo el que quiera pueda participar
Lo que hace que el LQWF sea único es su misión de crear oportunidades accesibles y beneficiosas para los comerciantes, artistas y jóvenes locales ...
· Brindando capacitación bilingüe sobre el proceso de licencias de eventos públicos y cubriendo el costo de los permisos de alimentos temporales para todas las empresas participantes de alimentos de Jamaica Plain
· Capacitando y contratando jóvenes para dirigir las actividades del evento a una tarifa por hora de $ 20 por hora
· Pagando a todos los artistas que crean o actúan en el evento por su tiempo y sus servicios.
· Ofreciendo espacios de proveedores gratuitos para las pequeñas empresas de Jamaica Plain.

Do you remember the Jamaica Plain World’s Fair? It began as a giant sidewalk sale in central Jamaica Plain before relocating to Hyde-Jackson Square as a multicultural festival featuring food, vendors, live music, and intergenerational activities. Unfortunately, after 2008, the festival came to a standstill. Over the years, many residents and merchants have hoped for a return of a multicultural street festival to Hyde-Jackson Square with the energy and activity surrounding Hyde-Jackson Square’s formal designation as the Boston Latin Quarter cultural District; the time has now come.
This year marks the 30th anniversary of the beloved Jamaica Plain event and what better way to commemorate this milestone and celebrate Hyde-Jackson Square's formal designation than with a re-imagined street festival celebrating Afro-Latin arts, culture, and history that also creates opportunities for local Latinx merchants, residents, and youth?
Introducing, the Latin Quarter World’s Fair!
The 2019 Latin Quarter World’s Fair (LQWF) will be held in the heart of Boston’s Latin Quarter on Sunday, September 15, 2019, and serve as the Latin Quarter’s kick-off to National Latinx Heritage month in Boston. Building off the 20-year history of the JP World’s Fair, the LQWF will be a true community festival celebrating the cultural traditions of the neighborhood. The LQWF is organized by local activists, artists, organizations, youth, residents, and merchants who are committed to creating an event that represents the spirit of past events while ensuring that the planning process is inclusive of the current community’s esteemed input. With a series of public community meetings, planning sessions, and surveys leading up to the event where everyone can play a role the Latin Quarter World’s Fair will indeed be an event para la comunidad, por la comunidad.
What makes the LQWF unique is its mission to create accessible & beneficial opportunities for local merchants, artists, and youth by:
· Providing bilingual training on the public event license process and covering the cost of temporary food permits for all participating Jamaica Plain food businesses
· Training and hiring youth to lead event activities at an hourly rate of $20 per hour
· Paying all artists who create or perform at the event for their time and their services
· Offering free vendor spaces for Jamaica Plain small businesses
But we wouldn’t be able to offer these opportunities without our generous donors & sponsors!

The Latin Quarter World’s Fair builds off the 20-year history of the JP World’s Fair, a street festival organized by local groups and residents that was last held in 2008.
At its peak, the JP World’s Fair featured:
-More than 20 musical performers
-100 arts & crafts vendors and information booths
-Drew crowds of more than 10,000 residents to the streets of Hyde-Jackson Square
Over the years, many residents and merchants have hoped for a return of a multicultural street festival to Hyde-Jackson Square and with the energy and activity surrounding Hyde/Jackson Square’s formal designation as the Boston Latin Quarter cultural district, the time has now come.
La nueva Feria Mundial del Barrio Latino será un verdadero festival comunitario que celebra las tradiciones culturales del vecindario y es organizado por residentes y comerciantes locales. Habrá reuniones abiertas de la comunidad y sesiones de planificación en el período previo a la LQWF donde los residentes pueden jugar un papel en la creación de un evento que represente el espíritu de eventos pasados, mientras se asegura de que los residentes y comerciantes actuales den forma a la Feria Mundial del Barrio Latino.

The new Latin Quarter World’s Fair will be a true community festival celebrating the cultural traditions of the neighborhood and organized by local residents and merchants. There will be open community meetings and planning sessions in the lead up to the LQWF where residents can play a role in creating an event that represents the spirit of past events while making sure that current residents and merchants shape the Latin Quarter World's Fair.
In this way, the Fair will truly belong to the community!
La Feria Mundial del Barrio Latino tiene como objetivo ...
- Crear espacio para celebrar y contar la historia del Barrio Latino de Boston (BLQ)
- Proporcionar oportunidades accesibles para pequeñas empresas de Latinx en Jamaica Plain para participar en el evento
- Lanzamiento en 2019 con la aspiración de crecer exponencialmente en los próximos 5 años.
- Primera del mes del Patrimonio Nacional de Latinx en Boston (15 de septiembre de 2019)

The Latin Quarter World's Fair aims to...
- Create space to celebrate & tell the story of Boston's Latin Quarter
- Provide accessible opportunities for Latinx small businesses in Jamaica Plain to participate at the event (AS IN: We are not charging any JP-based small businesses for vendor space at the event AND we are providing bilingual training and covering costs associated with vending food outside for JP-based food businesses.)
- Engage local youth with paid positions as activity leaders at the event (AS IN: We are paying all youth working the event & leading an activity $20 p/h.)
- Showcase a variety of Afro-Latin artists, creatives & vendors from the region (ALSO: We will be paying all participating artists & creatives who create or perform at the event.)
- Launch in 2019 with the aspiration to grow exponentially over the next 5 years
- Kick-off National Latinx Heritage month in Boston (September 15, 2019)
- Increase visibility & knowledge about Boston's Latin Quarter Cultural District
- Build community & resident engagement with a celebration for the community by the community (AS IN: We will be holding a series of community input meetings. The first one is this Wednesday!)
- Further establish the Latin Quarter as a destination in Boston.
