This summer, my son and I are taking on our biggest challenge yet together — the Pan Celtic Ultra Race. It’s definitely not going to be easy, but it’s something we’re incredibly excited (and a little nervous!) to do side by side.

The route is a big one, 626miles: we’ll start in Wales, then head over to Ireland where we’ll ride north from Dublin all the way up to the Torr Head, Ballycastle, before turning back south to Belfast. From there, we’ll take the ferry to Liverpool and complete the final leg down to Conwy in Wales.

Although it’s officially a race, because of his young age (9) we’ll be treating it more like a tour. Our daily distance will depend on how he’s feeling and what the weather throws at us, but we’re aiming to complete the whole challenge in under 10 days.

Alongside the ride, we’re hoping to raise some money for Diabetes UK — a cause that’s incredibly close to our hearts. Lathan’s Mum lives with Type 1 diabetes every single day, and I also lost my father to complications from Type 1, so this is something that means a great deal to our family.

We know times are tough for everyone right now with the cost of everything going up, so please don’t feel any pressure. Anything you’re able to donate, small donations would be hugely appreciated and will help make a real difference.

We are extremely grateful that Restrap, Albion Cycling and Exposure Lights are supporting us with products to help make this journey a little easier.

For complete transparency, a very small percentage of the money raised will be used to help cover some food costs during the event. The remaining funds will be donated to Diabetes UK. We will publicly share and post updates showing exactly how much has been raised and donated so that everyone can see where the money has gone.

Thank you so much for reading, for your support, and for cheering us on along the way ❤️
