The Elliott Family "One Step at a Time" Fundraiser

Hello and thank you for taking the time to read the story of Larry & Kimberly Elliott and their brave battle towards recovery.

On Tuesday, August 25, 2020 Larry was leaving his job as a Senior Test Specialist at Jahn Corporation located on the Patuxent River Naval Air Station in Saint Mary's County Maryland. As he was pulling away from work for the day he began to have a stroke causing him to crash into a parked car. He was then escorted off base in an ambulance and taken to Saint Mary's Hospital. After an exam it was decided to send him by ambulance to Washington Hospital Center in Washington DC  in order to monitor possible bleeding on the brain. It was determined that a blood clot had lodged into Larry's carotid artery causing him to have a stroke which in turn caused nerve damage to the entire right side of his body.

After four days in the ICU Larry was finally moved to Washington Rehab Center. There he began an Advanced Therapy plan. While dark times continue to hover over the Elliott family the light of hope remained bright within their hearts as they prepared for Kim & Larry's first grandbaby. Their youngest son, Benjamin, became a father to Emmalise Adel Elliott on August 31, 2020. When Larry finally arrived home on October 15, 2020 he was overcome with joy has he held that beautifully healthy baby girl for the first time. With the moral support of his wife and their three adult children, Nicole, Samuel and Benjamin, the family hopes to continue to grow Larry's already improving motor skills through weekly Out-Patient and daily Home Therapy regiments.

While Larry was being treated at Washington Hospital Center his wife of 28 years, Kimberly, had begun her own battle with Stomach Cancer. On Wednesday, August 26, 2020, the day immediately following Larry's stroke, Kim received the news that her cancer was in stage three and that her treatment plan was going to include the placement of a feeding tube as well as radiation and chemo therapy. Once her feeding tube was placed the treatments began. On September 29, 2020 Kim began receiving her Chemo Treatments once a week and radiation treatments five times a week. On October 27, 2020 Kim had her fifth and final Chemotherapy appointment and on November 2, 2020 she had her twenty fifth and final Radiation treatment. Even as she lay on the Doctor's exam table that last day, exhausted and dehydrated, she still mustered up the strength to scoot her way back to the waiting room, grip that rope hanging from the final Radiation bell and ring it with true Kimberly Kay gumption. With all of her might she yelled at the top of her lungs "F%#@ YOU CANCER... F%#@ YOOOUU CAAANCCCEEEERR!!!! After a month off from treatments she will undergo surgery where her Doctor will remove the area where the mass was. As soon as her newly structured stomach can handle it she should then finally be able to eat real food again and have her feeding tube removed from her lower intestine.

So many of Larry and Kimberly's friends, family members and complete strangers have reached out asking if there is a way they could donate funds to the Elliott's in order to assist as the family embarks on their journey to recovery. They humbly and gratefully accept and deeply appreciate all of your prayers and generosity during these times. As the family takes each day "one day at a time" they can't thank you all enough for providing them with the outpour of community support.
