UK Study Abroad

When the opportunity to study abroad arose a few years ago, it was a no-brainer that I would give it a try. I have never been out of the country before and what a better way to experience a different culture and meet new people than by doing it as a part of my undergraduate degree. I knew that applying to study abroad would be a lot of work, but even when things seemed like they wouldn’t pan out, I’ve been able to figure it out, one step at a time.

I am excited to announce that I am taking off to the UK in just two short weeks to study at the University of Arts London for a month during the summer semester!  I am enrolled in a course called European Art History: London & Berlin at the Chelsea School of Arts under the Graphic Design Communication Program. You can take a further look into the course here: http://www.arts.ac.uk/chelsea/courses/study-abroad/summer-study-abroad/european-art-history/ . The class fulfills a liberal arts requirement for my Bachelors Degree at the Columbus College of Art & Design. I also get to travel to Berlin for the course which is an incredible opportunity especially since the art scene in Berlin has been changing dramatically. To know that I will get to experience that firsthand is incredible! When I finish the course, the credits will be transferred back to CCAD and I will return at the close of the summer to finish my last semester and graduate with my BFA in DECEMBER 2017!!!

Though I have managed to get everything in order for my trip abroad including flights, paid tuition, course approval forms, study abroad visa, and accommodations, I have recently experienced some unforeseen circumstances that have set me back financially. Things such as my reserved accommodations recently no longer being available to me. In an attempt to save money and maximize my experience while in the UK, I arranged accommodations with a friend. Unfortunately, that arrangement is no longer available to me so I need to find a new accommodation in a short amount of time. This circumstance ultimately has taken away from the savings that I accumulated as a safety net while abroad. The USD dollar amount posted reflects the GBP amount of estimated costs for accommodations and a bit extra to keep me afloat while abroad.

Instead of giving up, I’m doing what I’ve always done in my life which is persevere through a tough situation. Asking for help has never been the easiest thing for me to do, but my friends and family have always made it clear that they have my back, for which I am eternally grateful.

I completely understand if you are unable to give; simply taking the time out to hear my story means a lot to me. If you are able to give, anything will help. If you do decide to help out, I encourage you to leave your email as well so that I can reach out to you personally to obtain your address in order for me to send a special ‘Thank You’ postcard from overseas. Personally showing my gratitude and appreciation is extremely important to me.

Thank you all for your support, it does not go unnoticed.
