December 2017: Please consider helping our students honor our WWII Veterans at the 2017 Peral Harbor Commemoration Events.
The 2017 Lakeshore High School Marching Band and Choir students have been selected as official ambassadors to the 2017 Pearl Harbor Memorial Parade and Commemoration Events. The band and choir will assist in commemorating the 76th Anniversary of the "day which will live in infamy". We are fulfilling our call of duty to help preserve the freedoms we enjoy in this great country, and recognize the sacrifices that were made by so many.
The events will be held at the Pearl Harbor Memorial in Honolulu in December, 2017. The students are busy raising $2,000 each for their airfare and hotel accommodations. In addition, we need assistance in reaching our goal of $76,000 for ground transportation, shipping of instruments, and assisting with meals.
The Lakeshore Band has a history of commemorating historical events, and this is possible due to great support from our students, community, alumni, and fans.
In 2004 the Lakeshore Marching Band performed at the Dedication of the WWII Memorial in Washington, D.C. Little did we know the journey would continue in 2014 with an inviation to perform at the 70th Commemoration of D-Day in Normandy, France.
For our students, it was not just about the trip, a parade, or a performance. In preparation for the trip, there was historical education, meeting veterans from WWII, and becoming pen pals with veterans. The impact on the students and veterans' families will forever be remembered.
While in Normany, officials contacted us with yet another invitation to go to the Commemoration of Pearl Harbor in the Pacific Theater to honor the veterans again. We have graciously accepted the invitation and honor of remembering our veterans on the day of infamy this December.
Please open your hearts as the students have opened theirs to our veterans. Thank you for your consideration.
