To our friends and supporters locally and across the world, we want you to know that Lucaya International School is resilient and faithful to our mission in the face of the devastation of Hurricane Dorian to our community across Grand Bahama.
Several of our families, staff and faculty have lost everything including loved ones.
This Go Fund Me page is established by members of the LIS community currently on Grand Bahama, for the members of the community in need in the hope of helping them rebuild their lives. This page is also intended to provide an opportunity for all our friends, supporters and extended family throughout the world to assist.
The LIS school campus was flooded and also sustained substantial damage in our classrooms. The school was insured and will therefore be able to rebuild using the insurance money. The Chair of the Board has opened her home to commence the IB1 and IB2 classes in the interim, and we are hoping to open for all students as soon as we have running water.
The LIS community is engaged in search and rescue, feeding and cleanup efforts across the island and is also working together to get our campus up and running for our students. We continue to hear from many of you in all corners of the world, and are grateful that you have expressed an interest to help out any way you can.
The list of needs is long and your donations will help us to help those in need in the LIS community in their efforts to start to return to normalcy. All funds will go directly to the employee and student families who have lost everything, in cases including loved ones. Specifically, funds will be spent on funeral costs, replacements of clothing, linens and other necessary items, as well as temporary housing for those currently without a home.
