LCCS K-bowl Nationals!

Goin' to Nationals, Baby!

The LCCS Knowledge Bowl team qualified for the Small School National Championship Tournament for NAQT, the National Academic Quiz Tournaments, in Chicago April 28-30!

NAQT is a quiz bowl format used extensively across the country in high schools and colleges. It differs significantly from Colorado Knowledge Bowl in format, but like Knowledge Bowl, quizzes kids on a broad array of topics.

LCCS qualified for Nationals by placing first for small schools at the Colorado Tournament held at CU Boulder on March 4, 2017.

Fantastic Knowledge Bowl Year!

In our Knowledge Bowl format, LCCS Knowledge Bowl returned for the third time to the Colorado State Knowledge Bowl Chamionship Tournament at CSU in Ft. Collins March 13-14, 2017. We fought hard through the two-day gruelling tourney to make it to the Divisional Championship round with West Slope rival Ouray High School and a Thornton charter school called Stargate. While we were unable to close the point gap we had going into the championship round, we were pleased with our 3rd place finish overall. We competed among the top 15 1A schools in the state and came home with a bronze medal and trophy!

Back in December, we competed at the Grand Junction Invitational and took second overall in a meet with almost exclusively 4A and 5A schools! It was a thrilling finish.

We also competed in a meet in Ridgway in February where we finished first for 1A schools over Ouray! We were second in the meet overall to 2A powerhouse Telluride.

We also started the year off right with a berth in the Rocky Mountain PBS Matchwits tournament! This show is broadcast weekly from January through April. We had a brutal first round match with Grand Junction. Although they eliminated us in that first match, GJ went on to win the tourney and let us know that we gave them the best competition of the event.

We have regularly finished first for 1A schools in our monthly league meets at Adams State University in Alamosa this year, often finishing second or third in the entire meet of 1A, 2A, and 3A schoools.

It's been a spectacular year and this trip to Nationals will finish it right!
