Breast Cancer strikes a fellow Animal Rescuer
Donation protected
The Situation:
One of my dearest friends and fellow animal rescuer, Kristie Brewer, at the young age of 48 has recently been diagnosed with a serious form of breast cancer, to which she is expected to start treatment in the next few weeks.
As if breast cancer wasn’t enough to contend with, at about the same time that she received the news from her doctors, she was also served notice from her landlord that she will need to move out of her unit by the end of January.
And to top it all off with a bright red cherry.... in November, when we had some good rain in Southern California (the first of the season) somehow rain water flooded her car and ruined the engine, rendering the car a total loss - it wasn’t much to begin with, but it was her only vehicle. As such, getting to/from work became a real challenge all the while tying to get to her various doctors appointments.
With no partner to lean on nor family in the state to offer financial assistance, as a fellow animal rescuer and close friend to Kristie, I am seeking support on her behalf to help her raise enough funds to move into a cheap but safe place in the area that will be both comfortable and affordable enough for her to get through her cancer treatments and get back on her feet again.
The Goal:
My hope is to raise $40,000 in total in the next couple of weeks to put a down payment on a mobile home in the area and have enough left-over to cover about 6 months of mortgage payments and have extra cash handy for any medical expenses and living expenses while she is going through treatment and recovery.
I know that she is not the only single woman dealing with cancer, but life has really socked her a good one this time and she can really use the love, support and donations now.
If monitary donations are not an option, maybe you can donate a used car, offer gift cards to grocery stores or pet stores as she also has pets that will need to be taken care of too, head scarfs or caps to cover her soon to be bald head, any other items/remedies that may be of comfort while going through treatment, cards and well wishes are also appreciated.
Additionally, you can help by driving traffic to her Making Biscuits cat adoption site, where she has some beautiful cats that need foster or permanent homes fast. http://www.makingbiscuits.org
A little more about Kristie:
Kristie is a graphic artist originally from up-state New York. She left the cold winters and her family behind 20+years ago for a new beginning here in sunny Southern California.
She spent some time in Seal Beach where she teamed up with a business partner and started a website development company where she brought the graphic design elements to the web design process. Business was going great until the industry changed and website design companies began to really struggle to find work.
Kristie and I met 9 years ago as she was set up on Second Street in Belmont Shore with her rescued kitties to be adopted. Over the years we became fast friends as we both were fostering cats at the time. Since then she has helped out many abandoned or strayed cats find homes and founded her non-profit Making Biscuits, to which she has devoted countless hours of cleaning, feeding and setting up for adoption events and has contributed thousands of dollars to vet bills for those in her care. Her rescue link is above.
Since I have known her, she has struggled through years of financial strains, the loss of her mom, the diagnosis of rheumatoid arthritis and now cancer. She has faced all of these challenges while fighting back tears and doing what she can to keep a smile on her face and march on.
Conclusion:
I hope you will join me in helping Kristie through this tremendously difficult time, as she is quite literally a few weeks away from being without a place to live and having very little income, if any, to support her and her pets through the scariest event of her life.
Thank you in advance for reading this message and for considering donating to her cause.
