Kokua with Mike Koerte's Cancer Journey
Donation protected
Aloha, my name is Shelly Koerte, and I am from the island of Kaua'i, HI. My siblings and I (Ui, Mike, Tia, and Sandra) were blessed enough to be raised by two amazing parents, Mike and Lu. Mom and dad taught us how to be hard workers. They taught us the importance of supporting community initiatives through our keiki and sports. Last but definitely not least, they taught us how to love and share the true meaning of ALOHA..
Three weeks ago, our world turned upside down as our papa who was diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease seven years ago, was also diagnosed with kidney failure and Stage III Multiple Myeloma Cancer. For those of you who have never heard of Multiple Myeloma, it comes in three stages and is also known as "bone marrow cancer." Multiple Myeloma causes structural bone damage which can result in weakened bones, and leads to painful fractures or bone breaks over time.
After three weeks in the hospital, thankfully, his kidney failure subsided and he was able to come home on Monday, 6/6/22. His first session of chemotherapy was on 6/9/22 and he and mom remain optimistic on treatment. All things considered, we will do whatever it takes to help dad feel as comfortable as possible as he goes through chemo. As with all medical journeys, we are preparing for the financial burden that follows. We are humbly asking for your kokua (help) through monetary donations to assist with his upcoming medical costs, sharing our posts, and especially through your thoughts and prayers.
We love and appreciate all who have said prayers and shown love to us so far..
