Hi, my name is Nekocher (Kody) Finley. I am a single mother of two boys, Uriah and Raheim and one adult daughter Tearah. I am currently living in a halfway home. My youngest son is staying with a friend, and my other son is living in a temporary shelter. I am asking for financial assistance to help find housing for my sons and myself. Please read my story below.
My parents got heavily into drugs when I was around eight. By age 11, I had been homeless many times and physically abused for most of my childhood. Child Protective Services were called many times due to neglect and abuse. I was placed in my grandmother’s home, but she was not happy that I was there. I ended up leaving at thirteen and began living with different friends. By the age of fourteen, I was on my own. At 17, I had my first daughter; by 19, I had my second daughter. My second daughter passed away at six and ½ months. I was devasted and felt utterly lost after this. I began to seek after God and began to go to church. After a year and a half, my daughter's father was released from prison. We ended up getting married, but my relationship with him drew me back into drugs and old habits. I felt so alone but never forgot God; He was constantly tugging on my heart. After having my sons, I remained in and out of bad relationships. It was a lifestyle that plagued me for many years, and only God could help me out of it.
Through all this, I continued to call on God, and after numerous setbacks, I knew I could not continue this path. I wanted a better life for my kids, and my heart longed for God. I surrendered to God and started attending church faithfully. God truly changed my life. I was able to secure a home for my boys and myself (my daughter was already on her own). I worked for Goodwill as a manager and had a car. God was faithful and began to bless me. However, I was sentenced to five years in prison because of my past offenses. This sentence was delayed many times, but I had to begin serving my time in March of 2018. My oldest son was eventually sent to live with his half-brother and now is going from place to place. Raheim has been with a good friend, Nisha, who has taken care of him.
On November 3, 2022, I was released from prison and was able to see my children after four years and nine months. It was a joyous occasion. However, we could not stay together since I did not have a home for myself and my sons to go to. We are all living in different locations. My sons need me and have been without a parent all this time. Despite all that, they are doing remarkably well. They attend church regularly, and Uriah serves as an Usher in our church. I want a second chance at life and desperately want to be reunited with my sons. I have an amazing church family that has stood by us all this time. I never stopped serving God and attended church while in prison. I am actively looking for a job; Raheim has a part-time job and goes to school. Uriah has been unable to work due to not having a stable place to live. Once he is back in Mesa, he can return to his job at Skateland and continue going to school. If you can help us reunite, I would greatly appreciate it. My church family will have oversight of all funds. God bless!
