One month ago today I found a lump in my breast. It was sore, and large as a silver dollar. I was scared, but didn't want to tell anyone until I saw my primary care doctor. It was a long night.
After talking to a lot of people over the last couple of weeks I've realized that there are a lot of myths about breast cancer, and what a cancerous tumor should be like and shouldn't. If I can share my experiences and help just ONE other person then I've done a good thing.
I was told by medical professionals that my tumor wasn't cancer because:
1. It moved.
2. It wasn't hard.
3. It HURT.
4. Cancer doesn't grow that fast.
Imagine how shocked I was when I got the phone call. IF YOU FIND A LUMP GO GET IT CHECKED. DO NOT ASSUME ANYTHING.
I had no idea what I was in for when I got the cancer diagnosis. I didn't know that I would have to go find a surgeon and team of doctors on my own, and how scary that would be. I didn't know how many doctors and appointments and tests there were be. I didn't know how wearing the waiting can be.
I also didn't know how many of my friends have had cancer. Or relatives with breast cancer. I didn't know how much support and sharing would be offered to me. And love. I am truly grateful for everyone and everything.
The process has just begun, and the most unpleasant physical parts are still to come. But I'm going to be ok. How can I be any other way with all the support I've got?

The funds are very tight and the bills just seem to get bigger and more work, need to call for authorization, resubmit and call to make sure everything is lining up.
