We're Moving! (and it's expensive)

Time to Move
The current location of King Donuts has presented many, many challenges to our business. We think the building itself is more than 60 years old. Over the years, it has been modified multiple times by various tenants attempting to meet their needs. From cranky heating and a/c to dizzying electrical work, a leaky roof to strained plumbing, the building needs more than we would ever be able to put into it. It was a tough pill to swallow, but we knew we needed to look for a new home. At the top of our list of criteria was staying in the neighborhood. After a long search, we are thrilled to land at the Kenyon St. Center, which is just a few blocks north of our current location on Rainier Ave S. and former site of another beloved local business, Beach Bakery.

Moving is $$$
So...moving is expensive. We are excited by the opportunities this move will allow. At the same time, this new beginning comes with expenses: a new sign, space modifications, moving costs, and paying rent for both spaces until our lease ends in November...it all adds up! Over the years, we have worked hard to keep our prices low. COVID-19, disruptions to our supply chain, and the recent spike in inflation are things that all small businesses are trying to work through. Despite all of these pressures, we are proud to say that we still do not have a $4+ donut on our menu.

30 Years
King Donuts has been part of the Rainier Beach community for more than three decades. It is a gathering spot for neighbors of all ages and backgrounds who come in for freshly made hand-cut donuts and coffee.

Our Family & Story
Our family has been in the donut business since we arrived in the U.S. in the mid-1980s. We are refugees from Cambodia who fled the authoritarian Khmer Rouge regime. Donuts gave us a way to pursue our "American Dream."

Fast forward to 2017: Hong and Razz moved to the Rainier Beach area when we purchased our first home. Later that year, we became stewards of King Donuts. For many (including us), King Donuts is more than just a business; it's a community institution that means a great deal to everyone whose lives it has touched. We want King Donuts to be around for a long, long time!

Community is Where it's At
We envision being part of our vibrant and dynamic community for years to come. It makes us proud when our customers proclaim our donuts to be “the best” in Seattle, and that Kim is regularly referred to as “mama” by many who come through our doors. We LOVE hearing from customers that King Donuts is “their" donut shop.
