Sandy took our home not our spirit

Hurricane Sandy devastated the East Coast this year. During the Hurricane we realized our basement was flooded and the propane tank in the yard was floating and damaged with the propane leaking outside and inside the house. My Mom had to swim in flooded backyard to catch the tank and turn it off. The Raritan Bay rushed over the retaining wall and flooded the freshwater lake behind our house. That was only the beginning. A week later FEMA came to see the house because we didn't have Flood Insurance which the insurance company said was not needed. FEMA said that the structure was damaged and unsafe. The Aberdeen Township building inspector came in the next day and tagged the house so we can longer live there until it is repaired or rebuilt. The house sustained support beam damage, foundation damage, furnace and hot water heater were underwater so they are destroyed. We also need to hire a structural engineer and have them send FEMA the results of the inspection. So far FEMA has denied housing assistance. We need help to get back on our feet. My mother is on disability and I have been there to help support her. Now we both need help.
