Support the Killians House Fire Recovery
Donation protected
We are the Killian's. A few weeks ago, our family home was destroyed in a fire. It happened fast, and we didn’t have time to save much—just each other. My dad was badly burned trying to get everyone out safely. He had second and third degree burns on his face, scalp, neck, and ears. It was a very pain recovery, but we are just glad he got out alive too.
We were all still in mourning from the sadness of losing our family dog, Tucker, who had hopped our fence and got hit by a car the week prior.
I had been staying at home with my mother watching over her as her condition started worsening quickly the couple of months leading up to the fire while Dad went to work. She has dementia, and since the fire, she hasn’t been the same. This kind of trauma is hard for anyone, but for her, it’s been especially hard. Years ago, she lost her son in a house fire, and now those memories are back, along with all the fear and confusion. She has been having outbursts every few days and we have tried to get her into a facility at least temporarily until we can establish a permanent residence but she is incontinent and we were told by the hospital all the facilities they tried to get her into require patients to be able to use the bathroom on their own.
We’re staying in a hotel right now, doing our best to maintain a roof over our heads while trying to find another more permanent residence. We’ve set up this page because we need help. We’re trying to cover the basics: shelter, food, medical care. Every bit helps, even just sharing our story. Thank you for reading, and for caring. It means more than we can say.
