Hello Friends, Family, and Compassionate Supporters,
My name is Charity Rife. First and foremost, Cammie and I ask for prayers for our daughter as she struggles through end-stage renal disease and all of the challenges that come with it.
Anyone who knows Kierra knows she is the 25-year-old epitome of strength and optimism. The world is a better place because she is in it. She is giving and kind.
At 16 years old, Kierra was diagnosed with Focal Segmental Glomerulosclerosis (FSGS). This is a rare kidney condition where the kidneys basically attack one another until they die. Four years ago, she began her dialysis journey. Since then, her life has been consumed by three times a week (4-5 hours each) sessions. Frankly, dialysis is the only thing that keeps Kierra alive until a donor comes through. Without it, she would die. This is also accompanied by periodic fistula grams. These are vital to making sure the port she receives her dialysis through is working and growing properly in her arm. Of course, there are also a plethora of medications, phosphorus binders, injections for her PTH every other treatment, and iron every other week.
Kidney transplants alone can cost around $400,000. That is a huge financial burden for Kierra and our family. We are hoping to raise money for medical costs, co-pays, medications, pre-post op surgical care as well as frequent travel/living expenses, time away from work, and lodging for her and our family at transplant time as it will be at an out-of-state facility.
All donations will go directly to Kierra's care/needs. There is no donation too small and we are grateful for any and everything received. If you are unable to donate, kindly share this information so we can get the word out. Thank you for your prayers, kindness, and support. They truly mean the world to us all.
