We have been given 30 days to leave our current residence due to the German Shepherd breed not being allowed on their insurance company. We were not told this when we moved in less than 6 months ago. We were not allowed certain (important) basic rights that come with renting, as we were not given even a verbal lease. We're consulting with the tenant resource center about this. We now have to find a place that will allow Chief, our 10 year old German Shepherd, and our 3 cats: Johnny, Frank and Chompy. Chompy was a feral that was abandoned from the tenants that lived in our previous residence. We fell in love with him and couldn't leave him behind.
Finding a place that allows a German Shepherd is a task in itself; on top of that we need to find a place that will allow our 3 beloved cats. We love our animals with all our hearts and we will not abandon them. Even though we are being forced to leave, we have realized that we need to leave for our safety and privacy as well. Our car and our entry door was broken into, and several of our accounts have been compromised--though there isn't much we can do about the latter except to keep changing our passwords. The privacy breach has cost us quite a bit, needing to buy new phones, separate internet connections, etc. We did file a police report, and the officer did confirm that it appeared both the car and our entry door were forced open. Since it is not our house, we cannot change the locks or make any changes to the doors.
The mass amount of stress this caused me to have the longest and worst migraine I have had in years and eventually I ended up in the hospital. I am trying to give as much information about our situation as I can without being too detailed in public for legal reasons and our own privacy and safety, but if you have any detailed questions, you can message me and I will do my best to answer. We are consulting with the tenant resource center and hopefully a low-cost or no-cost attorney to advise us on the more personal issues.
We need to come up with the funds ASAP so when we finally find a place that will allow our babies we don't miss out on it due to not having the money. We were not planning on moving, but if/when we do find another place, we will most likely have to pay first and last month's rent, plus deposits for our four animals. There are other costs such as moving supplies and a U-Haul rental. On top of that, there are several costs we have incurred due to moving here and living here; we have also lost significant income because of this situation. This all may sound confusing, but the bottom line is we are pursuing legal assistance, but financial assistance will be needed too.
We truly appreciate any help you can give in helping us get out of this situation as fast as possible. Thank You so much!!
