This shock to his system wreaked havoc on Kevin's body. His lungs are damaged requiring him to be heavily sedated and unable to breath without the assistance of a ventilator. His kidneys shut down and he needs daily dialysis treatments to remove the toxins from his body. His doctors tell me that Kevin’s road to recovery will be very long.
Right now Kevin is unable to communicate with us. He can’t tell us what happened in the water that scared him enough to almost drown. He can’t tell us what hurts or what he needs. He needs help from his doctors just to keep his body working.
That leaves a lot of other things that Kevin can’t do for himself. Things like working to provide for his needs, taking care of his home and meeting his commitments and responsibilities. I want to step up and help him with these things. He is my brother. He is family. I love him.
Kevin, like many of us, didn’t think he would ever deal with an event like this. He didn’t make plans to care for himself or allow someone else to take care of him. He doesn’t have a living will or a limited power of attorney. I can help with that, but the process is not easy. It is expensive and requires an attorney.
I started this GoFundMe to help my brother. The first thing I need to help him with is called a temporary guardianship. This will allow me to speak with his caregivers, insurance company and creditors. That will help me protect him and his status in life.
With your help, I hope I will be able to protect my brother and help him get better. Please give what you can. Every little bit will help. My first goal is $4,000. This will go to a lawyer so I can become my brother’s guardian. I know that this is just the start of what Kevin will need but it is the first, best step I can think to pursue.
