On December 20, 2020 my brother Kenny went to the emergency room. Kenny has been experiencing some pain in October with mild swelling in his legs that started to progress all the way to his abdominal at a fast rate. To what we all thought was a case of diabetes was actually his heart failing. We didn’t expect to hear the news that it wasn’t diabetes. We as a family having been taking it hard and due to covid we weren’t able to see him during the holidays.
Since then, Ken has undergone 2 surgeries assessing his heart and he’s is now in the process of being put on the heart transplant list. He isn’t able to walk on his own without help. His heart is only working at a 20% rate and should be working at a 80% rate.
Ken is currently being cared for by his father (Tony) and mother (Ryoko) here in San Antonio, TX. Sister (Crystal) has been driving down every week to help as much as possible and Brother (Matt) is flying down from Hawaii to San Antonio to spend as much time as possible with Ken. The medical professionals have been trying to get Ken as strong as possible so he can see his family, Ken has been having a really hard time breathing.
We are a very humble family that normally would not reach out to our friends/family for monetary help, but this situation is truly unique. We would like to make sure that Ken is able to be more independent, he is taken care of. Ken has not been able to work at a full time status since October due to his incident and Covid-19 and now with him having to be on the heart transplant list we are unsure when he will be able to return to work and at what capacity. Although we are very hopeful for a full recovery, there is no chance and it could be up to a year before we know if he can get heart surgery due to the restrictions. We truly understand how taxing this year has been on everyone and their families but if you could find it in your heart to donate to Ken, our family would be forever grateful. We appreciate you all for the support and love you’ve shown our family over the last month. We look forward to giving another positive update on Ken in the future.
