Help Kemp Hudson Beat Cancer

Donation protected
This is a fundraising page for Kemp Hudson and his family. If you know Kemp, you know he's an awesome teenager, a great student and an avid BMXer. He's been competing for years and even has a sponsor for competitions. All that changed on Monday, March 2, 2020 when Kemp's nose started bleeding and wouldn't stop. His mom, Kara Holmes, took him to his pediatrician that same day and the physician decided Kemp should go to Vidant Children's Emergency Department. Within just a few hours, Kemp had a preliminary diagnosis of liver cancer. One cannot imagine the shock, fear, and utter disbelief that took place in those few hours and in the days and weeks to come. Prior to the cancer diagnosis, Kemp had not been sick nor did he have any illnesses that would have made him susceptible to cancer, least of all liver cancer. He's a young athlete, healthy and strong. His doctors said there is no way to tell how long he has had cancer or the cause, but it is time to start fighting back. Those first few days were a blur. With his parents by his side, Kemp had a biopsy on Tuesday, formal diagnosis on Wednesday, port placed on Thursday and aggressive chemo started on Friday. On Saturday Kemp began having complications and Sunday he was transferred to the pediatric intensive care unit where he was placed on dialysis and a ventilator. Despite the week from hell, he is still fighting. Thankfully, within a couple days, Kemp was waking up, dialysis was stopped and he came off the ventilator. After almost another week of care, he was discharged from the hospital and today he is home with his mom, brother and sisters. His dad, grandparents, family and friends have helped Kemp and his mom along the way, sitting with Kemp during the long days in the hospital, getting Kemp his favorite foods when he has an appetite, and taking care of Kemp's siblings. Kemp's day consists of multiple shots and medications, clinic visits for blood work during the week and hospital admissions for chemo. His home medication list alone is hundreds of dollars per week and that is after insurance. Not to mention the tens of thousands of dollars for his care while in the hospital, and his visits have only just begun. After the treatments to shrink the tumor in his liver, the next step in this fight will likely be surgery. Kemp has a long and arduous journey ahead of him and needs lots of support for the fight. Money would go to meds, food, and bills as Kara takes the time off of work to take Kemp to appointments and treatments. Despite all that Kemp and his family have been through in such a short period of time, they remain positive and strong. Please consider helping Kemp and his family and take away the stress of hospital bills and paying for medications so they can focus on beating his cancer. *For offline donations, please email Andrea Croley through the GoFundMe messaging system which is checked daily.
