Help Kelvin Fight Brain Cancer

On June 30, 2021 my dog alerted us to my son’s room. He was in the middle of having a seizure which turned out to last over 5 minutes. He had no history of any medical issues so we took him by ambulance to the ER. At first they were going to send him home but I demanded they take a further look due to the severe eye lag he had. They did an MRI. With this they discovered a tumor larger than a golf ball. He had surgery July 1, 2021 to have it removed. The hospital did delay the pathology report which delayed the referral process to oncology. His diagnosis is a Grade 4 glioblastoma which is one of the most aggressive and deadliest brain cancer there is. Statistically he has a 4% chance of survival past 12 months with aggressive treatment. I am a disabled vet and grateful that I can be by his side for each treatment. His treatment will consists of 6 cycles of 5 days a week radiation for 6 weeks with daily chemotherapy followed by 28 days of 2 types of chemotherapy treatment for a total of 60 weeks to start with. Unfortunately the delay in referral kept him from being able to be in the clinical trial study for the IDH1 mutation. This trial would have given him access to the best form of treatment available currently. We are praying that the course he is on will work just as well for him. All his medical care is adding up quickly. We do have insurance but are still responsible for many copays. The one from the hospital stay is over $30,000 alone that is already due. There are medications that his insurance won’t cover that are needed. He also has had the need for everything to be sterilized, radiation cooling caps and creams that are also not covered by insurance. Comfort items for aiding in nausea, weakness and helping him walk. His daily radiation treatments are also an hour away from where we live. He just graduated high school June 11, 2021 and we were completely blind sided by this since he had no symptoms at all. He is currently having vision and motor skill impairment. He can’t see on the right side of him and we do not know if this is permanent. His dream was to be a robotic engineer. He was diagnosed with autism at the age of 4 and has not let that hold him back. He is hoping to beat this because he feels like he has so much more he wants to give to the world and he truly misses helping other people. We would be truly grateful for any help and support that can be given to help us through this time. We really want to make sure that we can get him to all his treatments, medications and keep him comfortable during this most difficult time. Emotionally this is the hardest thing as a parent I have had to face.
