August 2010 my mother Kelsey was in a tragic waterskiing accident. What we thought was a knee dislocation turned into a fight for her life. Her cartilage in her knee was gone, her PCL and ACL were no where to be found and her leg was unable to function. After finding her main artery in her leg was ruptured, she was Med-flighted to Mass General Hospital. There she recived a stent in her artery which was rejected and was forced to take a very large portion of veins from her other leg to repair her ruptured artery. Many months and surgeries later, she was able to come home. It's been five years since the accident and my mother has been bed ridden ever since. Her previous surgeries resulted in a very complicated nerve disorder in her leg, CRPS, that is not very well known and has little treatment. CRPS also inhibits one from getting any other operations as it could spread. She says the pain is like her leg is on fire 24/7. Finally after all these years we met a doctor willing to take the next steps so my mom could take her first steps in years. He suggested an amputation. Because this was an operation, the risk of spreding her CRPS was extremely high. The doctors and her pain team took all the necessary precautions to make sure her CRPS wouldn't spread. Her surgery was on Auguest 27th, 2015, and went successfully. She is now home and still fighting for mobility. I was 13 when the accident took place, and my baby brother was 3. For almost his whole life my mom has been hurt and in and out of hospitals unable to play or run around with him. I'm starting this fundraiser to help my mom recieve a prosthetic and help her cover any medical bills we still have. Thank you for your time reading her story, and please pray for a easy, fast recovery, and for my mom to finally be back up on her feet.
