My name is Kelsey and I have struggled with intractable, generalized, epilepsy for almost 15 years. Despite trying 9 different seizure medications, seeing a variety of specialists and undergoing a range of different clinical testing, we have yet to find out why the seizures are occurring and how to prevent them.
Moreover, after one full year of seizure freedom I was struck with one out of the blue on May 30th, 2020, while out on a walk and incurred my first concussion and a range of other injuries (lacerations, broken nose, fracture teeth and left eye damage) which kept me in the hospital for 23 hours. While we thought the worst was over and made some medication adjustments, I was struck by another seizure just 2 weeks later while walking which resulted in another full day of hospitalization and range of injuries.
While I feel lucky as an individual with epilepsy to have been able to sustain myself through work and complete college to this point, the medical and mind/body ramifications of these incidents are very substantial.
I am asking for support that would both assist in the expenses for these incidences while hospitalized and the follow-up treatments/appointments.
If you would like to help but aren’t able to donate, there are other things that would be of big need at this time as well (I could give more specifics):
- Driving
- Researching seizure treatments
- Researching service dogs
- Cleaning
- Making charts/plans
If you are able to donate financially or with time I would send you a personalized gift and if you are interested I can give you continued updates on the status of the treatment plan or other related progress.
When my seizures are under better control I plan to continue seeking volunteer or paid work within medical advocacy to create a system that works the best for every patient in an equitable and affordable manner.
