Please help my dad survive kidney cancer

My dad, Keith Meisner, is a 48 year old self-employed Independent Insurance Adjuster. He was the founder of the first green (environmentally friendly) body shops in GA and donated what he could including time, money, and space for the Little General Cloggers, Kennesaw Mountain HS, several academia and sports teams, etc., and he volunteered as both of my brothers’ little league coach in Cherokee County, GA and for North East Little League in North East, MD for more than 15 years. He is a father to 3, stepfather to 2, grandfather to 1, and was the primary care taker and supporter of my step-mom who battled with Stage IV melanoma just a few years ago. As an insurance adjuster, he was always traveling to different states; spending months on end helping those that were victims of catastrophes like floods and hurricanes, but he was always there for us or anyone in need.

Our grandfather (pop-pop), EJ, who’s fighting bladder cancer, has been constantly on my dads’ mind, and though 3 of us are living in different states, he brought us all together to see him after he was released from the hospital; picking us up from the airport, taking us to breakfast, throwing a big family dinner, and telling us all that he’s proud of us and that he loves us all. During this time, he complained about having lower back pain in both kidneys, at first brushing it off as sympathy pains for what his father (my pop-pop) was going through but was concerned enough to have it checked out, and on February 14th, 2019, Valentine’s Day, he was advised that he has 2 large masses, one on each kidney. He was immediately referred to Johns Hopkins Urological Oncology and lost his right kidney on March 22nd. The surgeon stated that the pathology of the cancer was a 4 on a scale of 1-4, grade 4 being the worst.

Kidney cancer is one of the cancers that they don’t have many treatment options for, and everything is pretty much experimental.

Our father worked hard all his life to raise us kids, to pay all the household bills, to keep food on the table and a roof over our heads while our mom works to pay off the massive medical debt accumulated during her battle with cancer, but now he’s out of work with no idea when or if he can return, and she will be missing a lot of work to take care of him. Fighting cancer is bad enough, but when you add on the everyday expenses like rent, utilities, food, insurance, copays, deductibles, premiums, etc., it’s downright difficult. He tried to continue working, but the pain has been unbearable at times, even putting him in the hospital when the pain was so severe that he passed out in the kitchen and had to be taken by ambulance.

Anyone that knows my dad, knows that he’s a caring, loving family man, charitable, and a hard worker, but for the first time in 15 years he can’t coach baseball, he’s not able to work, he has no disability insurance, no income, and now he’s the one in need of assistance so that he can beat this disease without the added worry.

As a family that believes in the power of prayer, every prayer, every positive thought, every dollar, and every gesture of support is greatly appreciated and will make a world of difference.

We are truly humbled by your support, prayers, and generous donations!
