Keeping piano tuning alive
Donation protected
Hello, my name is Nikita.
I’m fundraising to undertake piano technicians training to learn piano tuning, repair and maintenance under the guidance of a master craftsperson in my aim to keep the trades of piano tuning and piano technicians alive.
Currently piano tuners and technicians are on the red list of endangered trades. This is an issue impacting the whole world. The loss of piano tuners and technicians is a risk to the music industry and all those who enjoy music.
Why?
Because piano tuners and technicians are the foundation of piano music making. Without tuned and properly maintained pianos, piano teachers can’t teach and learners can’t learn. Theatres, orchestras, up-and-coming bands and the community choir all loose out. People can’t play to enjoy making music, play to develop a career or simply enjoy live music performances. The piano tuners and technicians are the keystone that makes everything possible.
Piano tuning and repair skills need to be maintained in our communities and this is why I am going to learn how to tune and repair pianos.
As part of my aim to keep piano tuning and repair alive, I will be attending 5 weeks of intensive training covering all aspects of piano tuning, repair and maintenance. Following this there will be a period of skills refinement under the mentorship of the master craftsperson.
What will your donations be used for?
- Assisting to cover the fees of the master craftsperson. (£10,000)
- Assisting with accommodation costs during the initial 5 weeks. (£2,000)
- Assisting with purchasing specialist tools. (£1,000)
What are the future plans?
- Once I have learned these skills I can take them back to the community to ensure pianos are tuned, correctly maintained and bring happiness to people for a long time to come.
- Raise awareness of the piano tuning, technicians and piano building/engineering alongside the career options available to people who would like a career in these areas.
- One day I hope to pass on the skills and knowledge to the next person to create a sustainable future for the piano.
What if I raise more than my target?
- Funds will be directed towards developing partnerships and raising awareness of these endangered skills, through the development of workshops with schools, to encourage more people to consider the profession.
Your donation helps towards taking that first step to ensure music and the piano continues to be there for everyone.
I greatly appreciate anything you're able to contribute. I'm very excited about this opportunity and the benefits this will bring, not only to my community, but to the future of the music industry.
