Cafeza is a small family business in Houston, TX. Our mission is to create a space of inclusion that welcomes a diverse community with warmth, hospitality, great music, and a unique vibe.
On Sept 10, we will be celebrating 3 years in business. In that time, we have:
*Created dozens of new jobs for baristas, bartenders, and cooks
*Invested more than $100,000 into paid gigs for local musicians
*Provided a gallery space for local visual artists to display and sell their artwork
*Served as a backdrop for music videos, TV shows, podcasts, and films
*Hosted community organizations, nationally-acclaimed authors, poets, and public dialogue groups
*Created a space where artists and entrepreneurs find inspiration and build relationships.
*Brought new life to a 90 year-old historic building
*Have become an anchor of Houston's First Ward neighborhood and an active part of Houston's Arts District.
*Generated hundreds of thousands of dollars in tax revenue for our city, county, state, and country.
But... it is not easy, and often grueling. In the same 3 years in business, we have invested our life savings, and poured everything that we have, emotionally, physically, and financially, into our business. We have suffered devastating personal loss and heartbreak, have been victims of crime and fraud, and have sacrificed every aspect of our lives so that we can keep going. We don't want to let down the people that look to us for inspiration and earn their livelihoods working or performing at Cafeza. Now, we are asking for your help.
In the past few months, we have been overwhelmed by unexpected expenses, including vehicles that have broken down, equipment needing unexpected repairs, and have suffered downtime due to plumbing issues.
Here's the last straw: in the midst of the hottest two months in recorded history, our air conditioner has broken down, and we need a minimum of $20,000 for a new 10 ton AC unit, plus new duct work and roofing, and associated expenses. We can't just pull that kind of money out of our back pocket. Currently, the shop is regularly above 90 degrees F, which is unbearable for many customers and our staff.
We are asking for your assistance in overcoming this huge hurdle. If Cafeza has made an impact on your lives, or if you care about the arts in Houston, or understand what it takes to build and run a small business from nothing, we hope that you will consider supporting us and contributing to this campaign. Thank you all for your Love and Support!
Respectfully - Ryan, Keisha, and the Cafeza family
