Hi everyone. For those who don’t know my story I’ve had Stage IV Pancreatic Cancer since February 2015. I’ve beaten the odds so far but I’m at the end of what conventional chemotherapy and radiation can do for me.
My bone marrow has been destroyed by the years of chemo and is too weak to continue chemotherapy. Amazingly my condition has remained stable for the last year without chemo. The next step for me is immunotherapy and trials, however, to be eligible for those they needed a tumour sample to be molecularly tested to see if I have the certain mutations that will respond to immunotherapy such as the BRACA 1 & 2 mutations. In the spring they obtained a sample through endoscopy but it was unusable because it was all scar tissue.
I thought there weren’t any more solutions available for me but my radiation oncologist told me that there was something new called a “Liquid Biopsy”. It is free for Lung Cancer patients but for other types of cancer the cost is $6200. For people like me who don’t have private insurance they give a compassionate discount of 50% but that will still cost me $3500. I’m on an extremely limited disability income and have no other way to pay for this test that’s why I need your help.
It doesn’t seem fair that my cancer isn’t covered and the only way I can get this test done is to raise money. I wish there were another way.
