Help keep a family together and fight for a mother’s right to a fair trial

Our friend, Paola Gutzman was recently detained by masked ICE agents on her way to work in a quiet residential neighborhood in Anchorage. She is currently detained in an ICE detention center in Tacoma Washington. Her friends and community are committed to raising funds to help guarantee her right to due process, a bond hearing before an immigration judge and ultimately cancellation of her deportation.

Like Paola, too many people including children have been picked off the street without a right to due process and a fair trial. This is not the country we know. This is more than just a fight for justice. This is a fight for the right to be part of our justice system and the rule of law.

Paola came to Alaska 25 years ago with hopes and dreams for a better life. During this time she has worked hard, and lived an impeccable and successful life raising three children including one recent college graduate. Over the past 25 years she has consistently worked two jobs, paid her taxes, volunteered many hours to her church, children’s schools and other community activities. She is completely Integrated into the Anchorage community and has never had even a traffic ticket or fishing violation. She recently just bought a house for her and her kids.

What she lacked in paperwork 25 years ago, she has more than made up in heart and love for our community.

We ask you to join us and stand not just with Paola, but for our democracy that guarantees everyone has the right to due process and a fair trial. We her friends want to give her and her family every chance to fight in court the unnecessary and aggressive policies that have split her family apart

The money will be used to pursue all available legal options for Paola to stay in Alaska with her family and the community she loves.

Her son Aldo Cotoyl is the liaison between Paola in detention, her attorney, friends and this Gofundme site. Rebecca Rogers is a friend who helped set up the site for the family.

Together we have faith in her legal representation, but we know her case is complicated. We hope to raise $18,000 to make sure she and her attorney can pursue every legal option available to continue the fight. We Thank you in advanced for your support.
