As you may know, Jean Mynaugh is dealing with a progressive illness – ALS, or Lou Gehrig’s disease. As she has been first in line to help the people in her life, it’s our turn to step up and help her.
Every $3,000 we raise will allow Jean to stay in her home for another week. She currently requires a caregiver 24 hours a day every day of the week. That care will intensify as her condition deteriorates. Jean wants to live her remaining days in her own home. To do that, she needs our help.
ALS is quickly sapping her strength and physical abilities, but her mind and spirit are as strong as ever. Jean is fully alert and aware and still cracking wise, even though she has to get creative to communicate (electronic writing slate, talking laptop, hand signals).
Right now, she is home, in the beautiful little 1950s bungalow she bought, paid for, rehabbed, landscaped, painted, waxed, polished, and made into the sanctuary that brings her such comfort and pride and sense of accomplishment, that reflects her beauty, tenacity, quirkiness, humor, fastidious, energy, and tastes. Her home is a symbol of the life she has built with love, generosity, discipline, sweat and tears.
Her greatest wish is to stay in her house. Jean’s health insurance and savings won’t cover the costs of care she needs to stay there – about $3,000 a week now, more as her illness quickly progresses. If each of us pitched in whatever we could spare, we could give Jean at least a couple additional months in her house. It would be such a great gift to her – a tribute to what each of us has received just by being friends, neighbors, family, customers, and coworkers of Jean’s.
Even if you don’t feel you know Jean that well, please know that her peace of mind and quality of dying is worth any help you can give.
