We are Danse Xpressions, a black-owned, family operated, cultural center that empowers the youth of Valley Stream, and the surrounding areas, through the art of dance. Twenty-five (25) years ago, 4 sisters were inspired to create a safe space for young women and men to find a sense of community and express themselves, through the art of dance; and hence Danse Xpressions was born.
Dance has been the foundation of our lives, not only bringing us closer as sisters, but allowing us and many within our Danse Xpressions family to build life long friendships that extend far beyond the dance studios.
For years, we have taken pride in servicing our community at a reasonable price, which allows more youths in the community to be able to afford dance classes. We have worked hard to instill confidence in small children who are frightened to go on stage in a crowded auditorium to participating in hundreds of community events. Throughout the years, Danse Xpressions has become a pillar in the Valley Stream, NY community.
However, due to the unforeseen pandemic, all of the wonderful work we have done and have yet to do, is in jeopardy. Like many others, we have hit some hard times and have not been able to pay our rent or utility bills for the past 4 months. Our lease expires at the end of this month and our landlord, despite our long history together, is looking for another renter for our beloved studio. This is a devastating blow to us and our dance community.
For 15 years, Danse Xpressions has used this space to make a difference in the lives of countless boys and girls (our children). Our students represent a legacy of pride and excellence as they showcase their talent and share their love for the arts with the world around them. Many of our alumni dancers have gone on to college and to have successful careers, with the confidence and tenacity that they have learned while being a part of Danse Xpressions.
In these tough times, we are asking for your support in helping us remain a valuable member of our community. If you can find it in your hearts to donate what you can, it would be greatly appreciated, not only by us, but by the children and families' lives we touch every day. Whatever you can donate (big or small) is welcomed!!
