I debated on whether to do this or not, but as most of you know, I never ask for help for myself, I usually ask for help for other kids and families in need.... but now my family is the one that needs help with my daughters medical bills and living expenses. I just started back to work in April, and now I have missed 3 weeks and will miss a couple more taking care of Kaylyn at home.
Kaylyn has always been a very healthy young lady, and has very minimal insurance coverage, mainly just to cover her well check ups......she hasn't really been sick since she was 16 mos. old, at the beach with a 105 temp. Trip to the ER and it was an ear infection. She has had your normal viruses, drink fluids and take Tylenol for the fever. Never missed a day of school in 7 years for being sick. So to our surprise, her trip to the doctor Fri. June 19th, because of 104 temp and sore tailbone turned out to be a Piodniol Abscess and a trip to the ER to drain or probably a 2 night stay for surgery to get the abscess out. Well our simple procedure has turned into a nightmare.......
The surgery went well Sat. morning and things looked good.....but less than 2 hours later, she lost alot of blood from her wound sight....they almost took her back into surgery to fix a possible nicked blood vessel..... her fever kept spiking and she kept getting sicker....her body was not making back her blood .....her breathing was becoming labored and put on oxygen....she also received a blood transfusions......on Mon. she was put in the PICU and was still getting worse......Tues morning she was put on a ventilator and back to surgery that afternoon !!! Her body being so healthy, was just fighting back in overdrive with everything going on, instead of getting better ! Infectious disease came in also to give input and was placed on a 4th antibiotic.
Thurs, they took the ventilator out, and when she woke up, she had a feeding tube, catherter and wound vac in place, not knowing what in the world had been going on the past few days, she wasn't very happy about the extra tubes........but she responded well and was moved back to her regular room on Fri.
Slowly, but surely, she started to respond to all the new treatments and started getting better, finally got off the feeding tube Mon and trying to eat.....she developed an allergic reaction to one of the 4 antibiotics, so they took her off those and kept a close watch on her.......FINALLY after 13 days in the hospital, Kaylyn was able to come home !!!
She is still on the wound vac and has a home healthcare nurse coming 3 times a week to change it......she is doing good !!! no pain except when they change the vac, and we have a specific timeline to follow to get ready for the nurse to come.....shower and pain meds within the hour before the nurse comes.
All of your thoughts, prayers, visits, Facebook messages, phone calls, and text have meant so much to all of us......Just thanking God Kaylyn made it through all of this with her strength, determination and fight.
