Kauai Flood Relief AnaholaTaroPatch
Donation protected
Aloha Friends of the Anahola Taro Patch,
In the early morning, on April 15th, record-breaking rains caused widespread devastation on the north shore of Kauai, including a massive flash flood which washed over the beloved Anahola Taro patch.
Thankfully, John Pia and everyone else who lives next to the Taro Patch are all safe. The Stage, Kitchen Structures, Bathrooms, & John's Hale were all destroyed. The water line broke, and there is a huge back up of trees lodged under the main bridge you drive across. There is at least $40,000 worth of damage & loss.
There are so many of us who love the Taro Patch because it has served so many of our community's needs, like music & family events, weddings, fundraisers, kids camps, workshops, and church groups.
John Pia has worked so hard, for so many years, to tend to this land, all the while providing a truly sacred and beautiful space for us to come together.
This is now our opportunity to help Jon, and to put our hearts and hands together to do the work with him.
We have put together this gofundme to raise the money to rebuild the infrastructure. We will start with rebuilding the bridge for his cart, getting the water lines fixed, getting the debris remove, and the rock and sand leveled where the kitchen will be rebuilt. Next we will put up the structures for the kitchen and gathering spaces, and build bathrooms.
Cost breakdown:
Kitchen & Gathering structures $3,000
Kitchen sink and counter top $1,000
Digging to fix the water line $1,000
Leveling the rock and sand for the structures $1,000
Walking bridge for John to drive his cart over $2,000
Trailer $2,000
Lawn mower $2,200
Weedwhacker $250
6 xTables $300 & 40x Chairs $500
Bathrooms $3,750
Every dollar towards this helps, so even if you can only give $5 or $10, it is greatly appreciated!
We are looking to gather the funds this week!
Please Donate as soon as you can!
There is more to do beyond these first projects listed above, but this is our starting point. We will raise the amount we are asking for, as we get a clearer picture of the costs for materials for those projects. Stay tuned
There will need to be tree and debris removal at the front bridge, but at this point we are seeing what John & volunteers can do to help with that, before we ask for financial help for the clearing of the bridge project.
We will be joyfully working to get things completed by the Mother's day weekend, Singing Alive Kauai celebration!
You can also come work with us to clean and rebuild. John said that he will be there everyday.
If you are experienced at chainsaw work and/or have a chainsaw, come on down!
You can also donate supplies:
Wheelbarrows
shovels
rakes
sickles & hand saws
Please Share this on facebook to help raise the funds!
Mahalo Nui Loa for your support!
