Katie's Medical Expenses

Donation protected
Aaron and Katie Ficker and their children, Anna, Ethan and Levi are missionaries in Guatemala. Many of you know Aaron and Katie personally and know the recent hardship they have faced. If you've follow Katie's blog , you have heard the details of their journey. In mid August they found out they were pregnant with twins, but they lost one of the babies early on. After this, Katie continued to have pregnancy complications. She was put on strict bed rest, had recurrent episodes of severe contractions and bleeding but was never in preterm labor. She received multiple blood transfusions and was being monitored closely in a private hospital in Guatemala City.

They were expecting a baby boy named Gabriel, who was a little fighter, with on par growth and a steady heart rate. Last Thursday (12/10), however, Katie had a placental abruption. She was rushed for an emergency c-section and Baby Gabriel passed away before delivery. Katie has had a very difficult recovery, still in the ICU but improving daily. The latest update we received is that today she was out of bed and smiling. Praise God! If you know her, you know of her sweet smile,  optimism, and how the grace and peace of the Lord is her strength. We are heartbroken and shaken but God is soverign and has had his hand on Katie every breath of the way. We know that He is now holding baby Gabriel and twin in His arms.

As you can imagine, the hospital services quickly added up, from multiple ER visits to a 6wks inpatient stay, emergency surgery, multiple blood transfusions and now an ICU stay. When she is discharged they will be faced with the bill. While medical costs in Guatemala are nowhere near what they are in the US, we know that her care has been extensive. Aaron and Katie have not asked us to do this, but we know that they need us during this time. So we ask you, to consider donating toward her medical costs. Also, please continue to pray with us for continual physical and emotional health. Remember this sweet family in prayers.
Pray that she is discharged soon so she too can spend Christmas with her family.
