Help Katie cover Clementine’s emergency vet bills

Anyone who is lucky enough to know Katie is well aware of their immense capacity for love, care, and kindness. Katie never says no to helping a friend or even stranger in need, and they deserve to receive every bit of that love back tenfold–we are asking their community to show up for them however you can in this moment. Their sweet little ESA (emotional support animal) cat, Clementine, has been plagued by severe recurring respiratory issues since Katie adopted her, and is currently experiencing another medical episode that has yet to be resolved, resulting in ever increasing medical bills.

On Monday night Katie took Clem to an emergency vet clinic in DC after she started running a mysterious fever and suddenly became extremely lethargic, turning down all food and water. After running some inconclusive tests and spending the night in the ER Clementine was discharged, only to go home and experience worsening symptoms throughout the day today (Tuesday 6/4). As of right now, Katie is currently faced with hospitalizing Clem while they try again to figure out what’s happening. This is creating a lot of emotional distress and financial pressure as they try to weigh the equally serious choices of getting the best possible care for Clem and continuing to rack up shocking medical bills to do so.

Clementine has required multiple visits to the emergency vet in the couple of years that Katie has had her, and those costs pile up. Katie's pet insurance has repeatedly rejected requests for reimbursement, classifying any treatment of Clem's respiratory issues as non-covered "pre-existing" conditions (yes, they pull this nonsense with pets, too). Even with careful assistance from the vet team regarding how the care is administered and billed this time around, they are facing additional thousands of dollars in bills overnight. Katie also recently moved to a much more expensive, new-build apartment in hopes of curbing Clementine’s exposure to allergens; this in addition to making constant changes to Clem’s day-to-day care (food, litter, etc.) to try and determine the underlying causes of her health problems, has significantly piled on to the bills created by the ongoing medical challenges.
