Katherine Hale Fire Relief

Katherine Hale lost everything in the devastating Santa Rosa Firestorm. 

In the early morning of October 9th, she escaped the blaze with only the clothes on her back and her beloved pup Uma.  Sadly, her cat Silly spooked as she attempted to manually open the garage door and she was forced to leave her. The house and all its contents are a complete loss.

Thankfully, a neighbor returning to assess the damage recognized Silly and brought her to the vet.  Silly is still recovering from smoke inhalation and severely burned paws at UC Davis.

Kate lived in her house, in Santa Rosa for many years.  She taught at Mark West School until she retired and pursued her other two loves, gardening and knitting.  She is a Sonoma County Master Gardener and a docent at the QuarryHill Botanical Gardens.

We are beyond grateful that she escaped alive and unhurt, but so much is lost.

Gone forever is her well-loved library of art and historical books, her art collection and important family historical documents.
Tragically, the inventory of her artist son, Sam Lopes’, stored paintings and drawings were also lost. 

Friends and family will miss her gorgeous garden and lovely home, that held so many warm memories.



Kate Hale is my sister, together with the extended Lopes and Hale families; we have started this fund since so many were offering to help.
If you can contribute, every little bit will be so appreciated; no amount is too small.

The funds will assist with replacing crucial items such as clothes, prescriptions, vision care, legal fees, and day-to-day needs.

All that's left of her possessions...nothing but ashes
