Kate Carlyle #stillkickin
Donation protected
After battling breast cancer twice, Acute Myeloid Leukaemia is not what an otherwise healthy, 36 year-old Kate Carlyle was expecting. But she’s used to life throwing up some challenges.....
For the third time in seven years, she’s found herself up against the odds. Late 2014, specialists told Kate she had less than 10 years to live without a Bone Marrow Transplant.
With no suitable donor match in Australia, Kate’s medical team began an international search and after a harrowing wait, a man on the registry in Europe agreed to proceed with the life-saving stem cell donation
Following stem cell transplant the first 100 days is critical. At Day 32, Kate was discharged into the care of her Mum at a temporary accommodation at the Leukaemia Foundation Village, not far from the hospital.
While it’s lovely, Kate cannot wait to get home to the Gold Coast, her husband Paul and two beautiful dogs Ch’i and Lila. Life beyond her third round of cancer and this life saving stem cell transplant will certainly be different - but in honour her donor and all of those who have helped her survive - She intends to make it a special life.
