Relocation & Recovery Funds to Rebuild after fire
Donation protected
Our mother, Karen McDermott-Specht and her partner had a house fire on the morning of Saturday, January 18th. We are all extremely happy that outside of second degree burns that needed medical attention, everyone made it out physically safe and sound. They have been staying at the Red Cross House and they are working with the Disaster Team there to figure out what options are available for them as they try to rebuild from this terrible event. Those that know these two individuals know that they would give the shirt off their back for anyone in need and they find it difficult to be on the other end of that and in need themselves. As children from Southwest Philly, we know the strength of our community far and wide and we know this is when our community shines.
It is after a tragic event like this that friends - old and new - show love and support in amazing ways. We are asking for monetary donations to support with securing a new apartment, to purchase clothes and furniture, to stock the kitchen with starter items and to help with moving cost and transportation cost while they are displaced. Additionally, funds will be used to support with any gap in income this may cause due to inability to work as they sort through rebuilding their lives.
If you have ever had the opportunity to see our mom in action it is often times in service to others. To support a family or a friend in a time of need. I have seen her do this countless times. Every little bit helps and if you are unable to give please just share this with your networks! Please take the time to read their story and share. We want to thank everyone for their support, positive thoughts and prayers in advance.
