Kali-Anne’s Medical Expenses

Donation protected
As some of you know my daughter Kerri has struggled with fertility, failed IVF attempt after failed IVF attempt for the last 10 years. After giving up for some time she met her soul mate Sean Rounsley. They tried the fertility journey again together. After a year of trying and a few failed IVF cycles the 7th attempt was a success. Sean and Kerri took a risk and transferred 2 embryos and one of them stuck! Overwhelmed with joy, they prepared to bring their baby into the world in September.
At 30 weeks into the pregnancy the doctor started noticing some fluid building up in the baby’s abdomen and was unsure of the cause. From this point on Sean and Kerri started going to the doctor’s 3 times a week to watch the progression of the fluid. Over the next week it increased at such a rapid rate the doctors decided to hospitalize Kerri until she gave birth. After being hospitalized for a week and a half, the baby started to show more fluid buildup in the skull and around the kidneys and Kerri was rushed to delivery.
On July 19th at 8:02 a.m. Kali-Anne Rose Rounsley made her way into the world and was rushed to surgery. Post-surgery it was learned she was born with an imperforated anus; this was the reason for the buildup and not allowing her body to eliminate waste. During the surgery it was found her intestines are malrotated and her appendix is on the wrong side. She had a fluid-filled pouch that was believed to be a cyst but was later found to be her bladder. She has no way to eliminate her urine. She now eliminates solid and liquid waste with the use of Ostomy bags.
At this point Kali is 2 months old and was preparing to be removed from intubation but was struggling due to the PDA valve in her heart that did not close. She was transferred to another hospital to have the heart procedure done to close the valve. This was a success and allowed her to continue making strides with breathing and lung development.
While Kali was working on growing and getting stronger, Sean, Kerri, and Kali’s doctors were still searching for the source of her issues. At 2 and a half months old an MRI was preformed which revealed the cause... Kali was born with a very rare defect called Caudal Regression Syndrome, or Sacral Agenesis. This condition means Kali’s sacrum and tailbone did not develop. Without this critical part of her body, the lower half of Kali’s body will be impaired to the extent she may not be able to walk on her own. Additionally, she has stage 5 reflux of her left kidney. Kali is also tongue-tied which limits her ability to move her tongue and can affect her speech as she grows without surgical intervention. Her next surgery will be taking us to Ohio when she is about 1 year of age to try and correct the imperforated anus.

This GoFundMe will ease Kerri and Sean’s expenses for Kali’s upcoming medical expenses as she will require specialty care, multiple surgeries, and medical supplies. Whether or not you can donate at this time, please pray for Kali, her surgeries and for Sean and Kerri, as this time hasn’t been tough enough they were also impacted by Hurricane Ian. Kali Is such a precious gift and our family thanks you so much in advance for any prayers/donations you can offer.

Thank you,
