My son, Kaleb, has a sever case of scoliosis. We have been taking him to a clinic for a few years now a couple of times a year to help straighten and strengthen his back, as well as, consulting with many doctors in a number of different cities to get the best treatment and advice.
Despite the preventative measures taken, his back now looks like a capital "S" in his X-rays.
We are scheduled to have surgery June 15, 2018 in NYC to correct his back with https://www.scoliosisassociates.com/about-us/meet-dr-lonner/.
After much deliberation and consulting with a number if top back surgeons, it was decided that this was the best course of action.
Here is some information about how this procedure can help severe spinal deformity, https://www.scoliosisassociates.com/treatments/vertebral-column-resection/.
As you can imagine, hearing that your child needs to have surgery of any kind is terrifying, but this cannot be avoided.
Unfortunately, insurance will not cover all the costs associated with this procedure.
The costs to this point will be in the $75,000 range out of pocket that the insurance company will not pay. This is a crushing amount that was unexpected by his mother and me.
The funds raised here will go towards paying these bills. They include , surgical procedures, many months of physical therapy, any other items that the insurance company will not cover, airfare, hotel expense and food.
Kaleb will be in NYC for 15 days and will be required to do an incredible amount of physical therapy.
These expenses will be posted here as they come in. $10,000 of the put of pocket expenses has already been paid to the surgeon.
It was recommended to me to put up a Go Fund Me page, Honestly, I was a bit hesitant to do so, but this situation has caused a severe hardship for our families.
Thank you, so much, for your time and consideration.
