When I received the news, it was my mother on the other end, and her next choice of words could have been spoken in any unknown language to me because what she said sounded completely foreign...

KASSANDRA HAS CANCER...


Many of you know Kassandra aka Nanda aka Negra aka Negrita - and if you do, you know how INCREDIBLY BEAUTIFUL she is, both in and out. She is the girl who drops anything at a moments notice to run to you if you are in need of help. She is the girl who will cry with you if she sees you crying because her heart has always been too big for her tiny little body and she will feel what you feel because she just can’t help it. She is the girl who will say “when do we start?” if you come to her with any idea, because she is always ready to ride for anyone she cares for. She is the girl who will grab anybody’s baby and walk away, because her heart just melts with them, and she is always able to win over the love of any baby or child, because she is just that irresistible to them... she has always been the girl with the perfect smile, the kindest most genuine heart, and the embodiment of a child-like wonder... 


But there is another side of our Kass that many of you do not know... she is a BEAST! When it comes down to it, she is ready to kick ass and take names! A Savage. And now more than ever - SHE IS READY! So the fact that at 24 she has been diagnosed with BREAST CANCER and her response to the first consultation with her Oncologist was to take off her shirt and tell her “I’m ready to cut them off!!” - should come of no surprise. From the initial diagnosis with the discovery and biopsy of the lump on her breast,  a second biopsy was performed for a second lump in her armpit and thankfully it came back benign. However, after further testing and scans, a biopsy revealed several lesions on her liver were malignant along with two spots on her bone near her spine, which is now indicative of Stage 4 Cancer.



Kass is working with one of the best oncology teams at UM Sylvester Cancer Center and they have been incredibly proactive with her diagnosis and the formulation of a plan of attack that has been ever changing with each new development. Her doctors are confident that even with these recent findings, their treatment plan along with Kass’ incredible strength and beaming positivity, will have a positive successful response. However, with this comes an incredibly demanding itinerary of weekly doctor appointments, tests, scans, costly medications, and so forth. Thus far, her medical insurance has been responsive and has covered most of her medical expenses with the rest falling on her parents. Co-pays for these visits, scans, tests, medications, transportation, and etc does begin to add up, and this isn’t even considering the loss in wages. As of right now, her first session of chemotherapy is projected to last 6 months, and depending on the response to it, surgery will follow and additional therapy sessions... The financial stress involved is just too big of a burden, one we will not be able to handle alone, and this is where ‘that girl’ we all know and love needs our help...


If you can find it in your heart, we are asking for your help with a monetary contribution to go towards the KISS MY KASS CANCER FUND; a fund we are putting together to assist with the mounting expenses associated with Kassandra’s fight with Breast Cancer. All proceeds collected will go 100% towards her medical expenses; no amount is too big or too small.
