Justin has Rare Bile Duct Disease
Donation protected
Justin is our nine-year old son who has had ongoing stomach issues for several years. This past December, 2015 it became increasingly worse. Since then, he has been hospitalized 4 times, had several invasive tests / procedures including but not limited to: MRCP, ERCP, and stents placed and removed. At first the doctors thought he had a Gallstone and/or Sludge in his Main Bile Duct. Upon his first ERCP, at Northwest Comminity Hospital, it was determined that he did not have either. Instead a 7 mm Polyp was found. The specialist that has performed at least 15,000 ERCP's has never seen anything like this in an adult or child. It is a very rare disease that leaves doctors from Hope Children's Hospital, University of Chicago, and Northwest Community baffled. He also has narrowing of the Common Bile Duct that presents as either inflammation or infection. Again, it is unknown why he has this because he had those findings prior to the stents being placed.
Next week he will undergo another ERCP at University of
Chicago to replace stents in his Billiary Duct just below his liver and Pancreatic Duct. Multiple biopsies will be taken to make sure nothing is malignant. In 4-5 weeks following that, stents are to be removed and he will undergo surgery to repair the Bile Duct disease.
As of now we have been told that the diseased part of the duct will be removed and remaining duct reconnected to a different part of the small intestine. Additionally, the gallbladder will also be removed.
The stents are merely a way to keep bile flowing normally, attempt to minimize his severe pain, gather more imaging and tissue samples, and hope that any inflammation will subside.
Both his mother and father have been with him at the hospital during the stays, which has had a severe financial impact on them as Mom has been off of work since late December and Dad has been working intermittently between hospital stays.
Additionally, mom is currently not working due to her own Spinal Cord issues, with several bulging /herniated discs in the Cervical Spine and a narrowing of the Spinal Cord. She has already undergone a Cervical Spinal Fusion 2 years ago.
Mom has been a teacher for 16 years and Dad is self-employed, previously owner of A Brianna Limousine Services, (13 years) and is currently the owner of J & S Towing, which he solely operates on his own.
Mom provides health insurance and was just advised this week while staying at the hospital with Justin that the next insurance premium is to be paid, as no monies are being paid to her by her employer during this leave and are due at the beginning of March. Until Mom can obtain temporary disability payments, there is currently not enough funds to cover our expenses.
Justin has two other siblings, one is seven and the other twenty- one years old.
All monies raised will be used for medical expenses such as prescriptions, transportation to and from hospitals (as we are traveling 50 miles at a minimum one way), bills, food throughout hospital stays, groceries for the family, and household necessities.
We also know that when surgery is done in a little over a month, Justin will need care at home for several months, provided there are no other complications.
Any financial support is greatly appreciated, as we just want to focus on getting Justin back to normal and out of constant pain.
If you know Justin, you know that he is a very hard-working student in school, plays sports, and loves to build and create things- whether a Lego contraption, a home for toads, a how-to video on You Tube on how to make anything that he is proud of. Justin has a knack for creativity and innovating new things. He is very energetic and loves to play with friends. He is also very conscientious of others and displays a caring and thoughtful disposition. Justin was a Cub Scout for three years, plays Intramural Basketball since 1st grade, played Intramural Soccer for 2 years, and has a strong desire to play football this year. He also has a birthday coming up on March 4th, which we are hoping can be spent at home.
Thank you in advance for reading our story and hopefully you will share this on your page. We appreciate your generosity, no donation is too small. Any and all donations are greatly appreciated.
Sincerely,
The Fabsits Family
