Apoyemos a nuestro amigo JULIO MERINO en su lucha contra el SIBO

Let's help our friend JULIO MERINO to find cure against SIBO

Let's help our  friend JULIO MERINO to find cure against SIBO

Julio Merino, our  friend, has been suffering a severe intestinal disorder for the past few months. It has altered his life completely. He has lost 25kg (58lbs), He suffers from severe abdominal pains, dizziness, migraines, nausea, amongst  other symptoms. All this compounds with the fatigue he feels and the weak  state of his immune system, as he can’t eat properly.

His symptoms indicate he could be suffering from SIBO (Small Intestinal Bacterial Overgrowth). However, it is not possible to confirm the diagnose as the disease is very rare in Peru. That is why we are launching a solidarity campaign. To put his case out to the world and raise funds to help him get treatment and improve his delicate situation.

What is SIBO?

Small intestinal bacterial overgrowth (SIBO), also termed bacterial overgrowths, or small bowel bacterial overgrowth syndrome (SBBOS), is a disorder of excessive bacterial growth in the small intestine. Unlike the colon (or large bowel), which is rich with bacteria, the small bowel usually has fewer than 10,000 organisms per millilitre. Patients with bacterial overgrowth typically develop symptoms including nausea, bloating, vomiting, diarrhea, malnutrition, weight loss and malabsorption, which is caused by a number of mechanisms.

Simply put, Small Intestine Bacterial Overgrowth is a chronic bacterial infection of the small intestine.  The infection is of bacteria that normally live in the gastrointestinal tract but have abnormally overgrown in a location not meant for so many bacteria. (SIBOINFO.COM)

Symptoms

SIBO’s main symptoms match Julio’s symptoms: swelling, pain and flatulence. He has lost 25kg (58lbs.) because of an fermentable carbohydrate-free diet. He is currently under a protein based diet supported by vitamins to help boost his immune system.

Pain has paralyzed his everyday life. Up until a month ago, symptoms had peaks: even though he felt pain, stomach burning and dizziness the whole day, symptoms peaked after taking meals or medication.

Today, pain is permanent. This has caused him insomnia. He sometimes has to rush to hospital to get endovenous analgesics.

This is accompanied by frequent discomforts such as flatulence, constipation or diahrrea, very strong stomach pain.

All this has altered his life completely and doesn’t allow him to work.

Treatment

Following doctor indications, Julio began his treatment taking Rifaxamina, without presenting any improvement in his condition. He then began to take Atrantil, a natural medication, innocuous when no bacteria are present in the small intestine. However, Julio did have a reaction, thus confirming the presence of bacteria in the intestine.

The Die-Off symptoms showed up 25 days after beginning the treatment. Migraine; dizziness;  fever; muscular and articular pain; nausea; constipation; diarrhea; swelling; rashes; allergies; nasal congestion; sore throat; among others. Many of these symptoms persist to date and have become permanent.

Toward the end of september, Julio began treatment with Neem Plus and Allicina, natural antibiotics prescribed by an american SIBO specialist. All this along with an elemental diet that provides the basic nutrients that his body requires (amino acids, salts, etc.). He also ingests nutritional supplements and vitamins to improve his physical condition, as he has lost plenty of weight. Most of these medicines and supplements are brought from USA.

However, the symptoms persist and have him paralyzed. Julio can not work to support himself and the treatment is expensive and lenghty. This is why it is urgent to get hold of a peruvian-based gastroenterologist who specializes on intestinal bacteria, so he/she can evaluate his condition and supervise his treatment integrally.

It would also be recommendable to perform a methane gas test on Julio to confirm his SIBO diagnosis and identify the bacterial type (judging by his symptoms, a Type C) in order to combat it more effectively.

If we can find a specialist and the treatment works by the next three months (February 2017), Julio could travel to USA in order to continue his treatment there.
