I am a cultural anthropologist of Latin America, long engaged with social movements for human rights.
Throughout, my work has been about women. My book Marketing Democracy: Power and Social Movements in Post-Dictatorship Chile brings to life a grassroots’ woman’s health group fighting for dignity and rights. Recently I have been focused on immigrant justice in the United States – working to prevent detentions and deportations in the DC-Metro area. Often these are mothers being separated from their US-citizen children when they are taken into custody and deported. My next goal is to visit them in Central America and follow what happens to these women as they live apart from their US-based families. I want to create short videos for social media to humanize and contextualize their lives.
In order to accomplish these social justice goals, I need to nurture my own creative spirit and generate the inner direction to do it. I am fundraising to participate in the School of Womanly Arts Mastery Program that guides women in maximizing their contribution and reaching their full potential. The course costs $6,000, and I would be grateful if you could make a contribution.
Thank you and many blessings!
