Assistance for Juanita Giuffre

I’m requesting support for my close friend, Juanita Giuffre. Juanita is the widow of musician Jimmy Giuffre; my late husband, composer George Russell and I have been close friends of the Giuffres for many years. Jimmy passed away in 2008 after a long illness. Juanita is 96 and on diaylsis three times a week, although she is totally present in life.

Over time, the royalties she received from Jimmy’s compositions have steadily decreased to be under four figures annually. The music business, always creative with its bookkeeping, has lost considerable profit due to Spotify, and other online “sharing” sites. I want Juanita to have a life without more stress. She’s in danger of losing her home.

To that end, I’m requesting donations to keep her in her home, and to enable her to pay the expenses of daily life.

l’m hoping that friends of the Giuffres, and those who have appreciated Jimmy’s music, will make a gift in any amount.

Because Juanita doesn't have email, or a reliable cell phone, funds will be deposited into my business account, and I will send a check to her in West Stockbridge, MA. She has been resisting asking for help, but several of her friends have been urging her to allow us to set up this page.
