Hello everyone,
My name is Won, and I've created this campaign to honor the memory of my beloved friend, Joon Song. On December 13th, 1988, Joon entered this world, and at only 34, he left us all too soon. Joon was not just a friend; he was like an older brother, my childhood companion, and my best friend.
Joon's journey took a heart-wrenching turn when he was diagnosed with a rare and aggressive cancer called Spindle Cell Sarcoma in his intestine. This cancer is so rare that there are only a handful of case studies and patients diagnosed with it. The lack of a clear treatment protocol made his battle all the more challenging. Prior to his diagnosis in the fall of 2021, Joon was the picture of health. An avid powerlifter who religiously worked out and hit the gym, he was also pursuing his dreams of becoming a pharmacist.
Despite the immense challenges, Joon's resilience and courage shone through. In 2022, after a year of relentless treatment, he started to experience moments of remission. He resumed his passion for powerlifting, proposed to his girlfriend, and embraced life with an unbreakable spirit.
However, the beginning of 2023 brought back the cancer with an even fiercer force. Joon's health rapidly declined, and between July and August, his struggle became evident to all who loved him. On August 16th, 2023, Joon passed away, a true warrior until the end. He fought not only for himself but for the precious time to say goodbye to his family and friends. He held on for an extra day, ensuring that we could all bid our farewells.
In honor of Joon's memory, his family wishes to direct contributions to the Sarcoma Cancer Foundation of Canada. This donation will aid in crucial research, finding treatment pathways, and raising awareness about this rare cancer. Joon's funeral will take place on Wednesday, August 23rd, at Hainstock's Funeral Home & Crematorium in Alberta, Edmonton. This is where he achieved his dreams, and it's fitting that we celebrate his life here. His remains will then find their resting place in the Niagara Region, his hometown.
Song’s Family had let me know that they will be covering the cost of the funeral, I feel it's important to show how much Joon impacted our lives. As his closest friend, I aim to contribute towards his final resting place, a space where his loved ones can pay their respects. Moreover, many of Joon's friends and family have asked me where to donate in his honor. This campaign is created to demonstrate to the Song family that an entire community stands in support of them, as Joon's life touched so many.
Your support means the world to us. A portion of the funds raised will help secure a place for Joon's remains in the Niagara Region. The remainder will be donated to the Sarcoma Cancer Foundation of Canada, continuing the fight against this devastating disease.
I thank you for your support, and if you have any questions or would like to reach out, please don't hesitate to contact me at [email redacted].
