UPDATE JANUARY 30 2026:
Hi friends and family, Jennifer and Jesse have given me an update to share with you all about his upcoming Heart Surgery to repair his heart valve on February 10th.
After several weeks of daily antibiotic infusions at Pagosa Medical Center for a month, he has now been scheduled for surgery in Colorado Springs on February 10th.
I am going to provide Jennifer's direct message with the medical details and a summary of Jesse's options and their decision making on their Family Facebook Support Page.
They were given 3 surgery options, and Jesse has chosen Traditional Heart Surgery to repair his heart valve.
From the Bauer's, they can't express in words how you all have impacted their family. They have felt your love, prayers and support all these months. Being witness to their health journeys this past 13 months has me speechless, and I know their journey continues to be an incredible testimony of God's love and miraculous healing. The community created through this page has been a privilege to be a apart of.
PLEASE keep those prayers rolling for Jesse and his medical team as they close in on this date of his upcoming surgery. In the midst of all of this, Jennifer is still recovering from her life altering infections in January 2025 and continues to see multiple specialists on a monthly basis. She also has a jaw surgery in her future after Jesse recovers from his heart surgery.
You would never know what these two have endured and overcome throughout their life together without their vulnerability to share through this platform, but know that you are supporting the most incredible family during unimaginable times.
Jesse has not been able to work since his hospitalization early December, and he won't be able to for up to 3 months post surgery. Financial aid is an answer to prayer while they take care of their monthly expenses and 3 beautiful kiddos.
DECEMBER 2025
Hello Friends (old and new),
This is Meagan refreshing the Bauer Family support page. I hope you all are enjoying this Holiday Season and holding on to your dear ones so tight. Wow, I can’t believe we are almost to January 2026! What a year it’s been for the Bauer family.
We started the year with your incredible prayers and support while Jennifer was fighting for her life in January with multiple infections… I cannot express what your prayers and support have meant to the Bauer family this year. You’ve been an incredible lifeline to them. Jennifer is still recovering from her time in the hospital and being on a ventilator, but I am so proud of my sister… she is a survivor and a true testimony of God’s miracles and faithfulness.
Now, I am updating this page to share with you that Jesse is “bookending” 2025 with much needed prayer and support. As the provider for the precious Bauer family, he became very sick early October (during the height of hunting season). He experienced bouts of temporary amnesia and had multiple visits to the ER without a clear diagnosis. He worked over two months with his symptoms while managing their outfitting business and guiding hunts.
But, on December 9th, he was transferred from Pagosa Springs Medical Center via flight for life to Memorial Hospital in Colorado Springs for a possible blood clot in his kidney and for extensive testing and intensive care. Jennifer was able to drive to be with him that night, and they stayed 6 days in the hospital seeing specialists and having many tests and procedures done.
I am trying to keep this medical update as brief as possible, so I will list the things in order of discovery during their stay and the plan for his recovery and treatment in the coming months.
-Blood clot in kidney
-Blood infection
-4 types of antibiotics
-CT and Ultrasound of heart
-Streptococcus diagnosis
-Anemia and iron deficiency diagnosis
-Echocardiogram discovered Bicuspid Aortic Valve - a congenital heart defect- heart infection was formed on his heart valve creating a clot that traveled to his kidney
-TEE procedure (scope ultrasound of heart)
-Heart valve is leaking, so open heart surgery will be performed sometime after his daily 6 weeks infusions of antibiotics at PSMC for his blood infection.
-Pic line was placed before hospital discharge for antibiotic administration the next 6 weeks in Pagosa
*MRI shows that Jesse did in fact have a stroke at sometime which may explain his bouts of temporary amnesia in the Fall.
Thanking the Lord they were discharged and reunited with the kids after almost a week. Jennifer slept in a chair by Jesse’s side each night in his hospital room just as Jesse did for her in January. These two are my heroes. Their love for one another and their kiddos is beautiful. They continue to overcome and strive through things that most people don’t experience in a lifetime, and with that said, I am without any more words.
Other than these: I will keep updates on here as Jesse moves forward toward his surgery after his 6 weeks round of antibiotics to clear his blood infection. I am going to reactivate their go fund me if anyone would like to contribute toward their finances as Jesse will be off work for the foreseeable future and then another recovery after open heart surgery to repair is leaking heart Valve. I will also list Jennifer’s Venmo if you prefer to skip fund me fees.
Blessings to you all heading into a new year!
Meagan
