Ulcerative Colitis
I have been battling with severe Ulcerative Colitis for 2 years (diagnosed in May of 2015). Throughout the 2 years, I have exhausted all of the possible managing medications. Due to the medications no longer working, I have decided to have a colectomy to remove my entire colon. This is the only known cure of Ulcerative Colitis.
My decision of which type of surgery has not yet been made. I can either have surgery to have a permanent ileostomy or go through multiple surgeries to have a J-pouch created. Depending on the surgery I decide on, I will be out of work for anywhere from 2-4 months.
This surgery will greatly improve my quality of life. Currently, I have been limited to living on my couch for the past 3 months in pain.
The funds that I will recieve from this campaign will go towards my medical bills, flights to and from California --> Michigan, as well as my living expenses while I am on medical leave from work. As you can imagine, rent in Silicon Valley, California is extremely expensive and this is going to be a strain on myself and my family.
Although my goal may be a bit high, anything will be very helpful. If there happens to be an excess of funds, the leftovers will be donated to the Crohn's and Colitis foundation.
If you are unable to donate, please inform yourself on Ulcerative Colitis, Crohn's, and other auto-immune diseases.
Understanding these diseases and what people go through is very important in being able to provide support to friends and family.
I will be updating this page with videos when possible.
My
surgery will be done the first week of May (my birthday) and recovery will last 4-6 weeks.
Here are some links to read up on the disease and surgeries I will be going through:
